Experience... I have lost both of my parents to Alzheimers, today is my mom`s birthday, she has been gone 3 years, my dad has been gone 10. I became the care taker of my dad and did the best I could, because I could tell my mom was allready starting to fail, once his symtoms progressed to the point where she could not take care of him at home. My dad was very sweet and mellow during his horrible progression into his final stages. My mom, on the other hand was extremely hostile and we had to put her in 4 different care facilitys because of her behavior, in less then a year. Ultimately having to have her sedated most of the time due to her behavior. Ironically, both of my parents passed after having hip fractures and the subsequent surgerys that only speeded up the process of their demise. My father never walked again after his surgery, and was gone in 6 months. My mother contracted pneumonia after her surgery and was in a coma for a week before she finally went to her beloved husband who I am sure was waiting for her with that same sweet smile and gleam in his eyes that I had missed the last years of his life. I think she just missed him, and that was what the anger was about. God Bless all of you and my heart goes out to all who are touched by this trecherous devastating disease. [366] |
